Easy Patio Upgrades

Amber RandhawaHomeowner and Homebuyer Tips, Interior Decorating

In Atlanta we are blessed with several more months of pleasant weather, perfect for spending time outdoors. If you’ve been beating your quarantine blues by hanging out on your patio more than usual, you may have noticed some things that you could improve upon in your outdoor living areas. With end-of-summer sales right around the corner, now is the perfect time to take your patio game to the next level. Plus, when it comes to your home’s resale value, a home’s exterior is just as important as its interior, and an impressive patio or deck can be a major selling point in your listing. So whether you have an imminent move planned, or you just want a more pleasant backdrop for your fall evenings, consider these tips to refresh your patio.

Improve Your Lighting

The right lighting can completely transform any room in your home, and the great outdoors is no exception. Especially if you use your patio or deck later in the evening after the sun goes down, the right lighting is very important. Adding solar lights along walkways and edges will create a warm and cozy glow. The currently trending LED string lights are an great way to transform your patio into a fun and festive location for intimate gatherings and celebrations.

Replace Your Grill

Everyone has their favorite type of grill, but whether you prefer the taste of charcoal or the convenience of gas, now is a great time to replace an aging grill or upgrade to a bigger and nicer model. Perhaps it’s even time for a smoker or brick oven. If you want to really make an impact with your home’s resale value, splurging on a full-fledged outdoor kitchen might be the way to go. However, this is a rather expensive upgrade, so only consider it if you are truly an outdoor grill master.

Add Some Vines

Do you have a bare brick wall or fence on your patio or deck that needs a little bit of decoration? Letting a vine wind its way up the wall adds a beautiful, all-natural touch to your decor. Flowering vines like clematis and honeysuckle work great, and can also be using around a trellis or pergola, which can be a great addition to your patio if you do not already have a bare wall to use for vines.

Refresh your Furniture

If you haven’t replaced your patio furniture in awhile, you might want to check for mildew, worn cushions and wayward wicker. If anything is in disrepair, many outdoor living stores are offering major discounts as the summer winds down. Keep it simple when purchasing new items. Too much patio furniture can make your outdoor living space feel crowded and full, especially if you have a smaller patio bordering a yard with limited additional greenspace. Select a few functional pieces that look good together, and that provide enough seating for your needs. Simple wood furniture is great because it has a rustic look, and you can change the throw pillows seasonally.
