Amber RandhawaWhat's Happening Around Atlanta

Atlanta is home to many amazing black-owned restaurants, and two in particular have made Thrillist’s list of Top 30 Black-Owned Restaurants in the Nation. Both of these Atlanta restaurants are not only known for their delicious food, but also as the meeting place of civil rights activists in the 1960s, along with modern day politicians and celebrities.

Busy Bee Cafe

Open since 1947, Busy Bee Cafe is famous for their fried chicken, which was voted best in Atlanta in the AJC Best Fried Chicken poll for the past two years. The restaurant has also received recent notoriety as the location of a well publicized meeting of Bernie Sanders and Killer Mike.

Paschal’s

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a noted regular at Paschal’s, along with icons of the civil rights movement such as John Lewis and Andrew Young. Their photos, along with a timeline of Paschal’s history in Atlanta are now framed throughout the restaurant on Northside Drive.
