A Coronavirus Guide to Atlanta’s Farmers Markets

Amber RandhawaUncategorized, What's Happening Around Atlanta

A visit to the local farmers market has become a weekly tradition for many Atlantans, especially during the spring when the weather is finally perfect for outdoor shopping. The Coronavirus has pretty much everything looking a little different this year, including how we shop for fresh produce and locally grown and crafted products. We checked in with several farmers markets around town to see how they are operating under shelter-in-place orders and enhanced safety procedures.

Atlanta Farmers Market – As an open air market, the Atlanta Farmers Market has remained open throughout the shelter-in-place restrictions. Social distancing is encouraged, but for most the most part the market has operated as usual.

Brookhaven Farmers Market – The Brookhaven Farmers Market is slated to open for the season on Saturday, May 2nd. The market will operate on Saturday mornings with enhanced safety measures in place, such as spacing vendor booths at least six feet apart, and allowing vendors to bag all items.

Marietta Square Farmers Market – The Marietta Square Farmers Market has opted to forego in-person sales completely for now. Instead shoppers are encouraged to pre-order items from vendors for pickup at the market on Saturday mornings. No payment changes hands when orders are picked up, decreasing the need for contact.

Morningside Farmers Market – The Morningside Farmers Market is determined to stay open, providing local residents with access to guaranteed organic produce and other food items. They too are implementing special safety measures, such as increased distance between vendor booths and encouraging shoppers to use Apple Pay if possible.
